News:

April 14, 2024: The Basilisk web browser [actually, the unbranded Serpent version] has been added. AlbusLuna, Epyrus, and IceDove have been updated to latest git.

April 20, 2023: Bug fix: Different UXP programs can now be run at the same time. However, as Thunderbird forks may share email profiles, concurrent execution of two or more programs of that type is blocked.

April 09, 2023: Updated to latest upstream code as of April 09, 2023. Also added Epyrus.

What is this page?

This page provides source tarballs for the UXP Browser Bundle including Albus Luna aka AlbusLuna and three UXP forks of Thunderbird.

Albus Luna is a Classic Firefox (tm) work-alike based on a well-known Firefox (tm) fork.

The upstream fork — Pale Moon (tm) — is considered to be important. However, it's distributed under unusually restrictive terms and conditions.

Albus Luna is, in short, a working pre-Quantum Classic Firefox (tm) fork that you can modify largely as you wish.

As of 2022, Albus Luna was the only non-End of Life browser of this type. Pale Moon (tm) had done the hard work but it was a walled garden.

A related goal is assemble a few of the best XUL extensions from the past 10 to 20 years and to ship them with Albus Luna. In some cases, the extensions will be pre-installed and in other cases they'll be available but not installed.

The browser comes with uBlock Origin, ScrapBook X, Tab Mix Plus, and Saved Password Editor pre-installed and more extensions will be added.

The UXP Browser Bundle features Albus Luna and 8 other XUL-friendly and non-Rust programs in one easy-to-build source tree:

Classic Firefox — As Albus Luna
Newer Firefox $mdash; As Basilisk aka Serpent
Netscape — Or a reasonable facsimile
Seamonkey — As Blue Gorilla
Thunderbird — As Icedove, Interlink, and Epyrus
Chatzilla — As Ambassador
Borealis Navigator

Unpack the source tarball, install a few dependencies, and run a single “bash” script. 4 hours later — depending on hardware — you're Mozilla'd up with 9, count 'em, 9, Mozilla programs that include XUL support and no need for Rust.

It's never been this easy to fill your distro to bursting with pre-Quantum non-Rust Mozilla software. XUL Forever is the endeavour.

Some caveats:

This source tree is intended for developers. There are rough edges.

One example is that most of the Help links and similar links which are built into the programs go to Error 404 pages and/or obsolete pages. This issue will be addressed over time.

The source tarball presently omits most git histories.

Netscape Lives Again
UXP Netscape browser fork

To address a question that has been received: No, it doesn't seem to be an I.P. violation of any type to distribute FOSS source code descended over decades from Netscape (tm) that happens to build a work-alike to the original browser; with or without images that are trademarked.
